How UK investors buy halal stocks

The stocks on this page are US-listed. UK investors buy them through any UK broker that offers US markets: most major platforms support US shares inside a Stocks and Shares ISA, a SIPP, or a general investment account. You will be asked to complete a W-8BEN form once; it typically reduces US dividend withholding tax from 30% to 15% under the US-UK tax treaty.

US-listed shares are eligible for Stocks and Shares ISAs because NYSE and NASDAQ are HMRC-recognised stock exchanges. ISA eligibility and Shariah compliance are separate questions: the ISA is just the tax wrapper, while the screening on this page tells you whether the underlying business and its financial ratios pass AAOIFI Standard 21.

Several large UK companies also trade in the US as ADRs (American Depositary Receipts), and those appear in the list above with their US tickers. HalalScreener screens US-listed stocks, ETFs, and about 95 foreign companies via their US ADRs. We do not currently screen native London Stock Exchange listings, so a UK company without a US listing will not appear here.

Watch two practical costs: foreign exchange fees on GBP to USD conversion (these vary widely between brokers) and the small ongoing difference between holding an ADR and the underlying share. Neither affects the Shariah status of the stock itself.
