How this category is screened
Protocols whose mechanism is mixed or debated: liquid staking and restaking, cover and insurance pools, synthetic assets, and spot exchanges that also run perpetual futures. Scholars differ on whether staking rewards paid through a tradable token are payment for validation work or resemble interest, and on whether mutual cover pools qualify as takaful. Where a protocol mixes permissible and prohibited activity and the share is not established, the screen rates it Doubtful rather than clearing it.
A verdict covers buying the coin spot and holding it. Margin, leverage, futures and fixed-yield lending accounts fail whatever the coin.
Coins are screened on published scholarly opinion about what they do, because AAOIFI has not issued a cryptocurrency standard. Scholars who prohibit all cryptocurrency, or who withhold a ruling on it, would not accept any coin on this list. This is a screen, not a fatwa.
